The End of Fall 2014

As the fall semester is coming to an end, I felt that it was most appropriate to recap on some of the highlights here at Theta Chapter...

Be the Change is an annual service event we host with the brothers of Delta Epsilon Psi and Beta Chi Theta. Much like OU's Big Event, Be the Change consists of several service sites located throughout the Norman-Moore area. Members from other organizations such as Kappa Delta Chi, Phi Delta Alpha, and Omega Delta Phi attended bright and early on a Saturday morning and volunteered at these service sites to help build homes, feed the homeless, and more.

For our philanthropy, our Vice President Faria Chowdhury co-hosted a game night with Tucker Hein from Alpha Tau Omega called, 'Are You Smarter Than a Greek?'. The event was based on the TV Game Show 'Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?' Members from OUIS (Oklahoma Undergraduate India Society), Delta Epsilon Psi, Beta Chi Theta, alpha Kappa Delta Phi, SAIV (South Asian Intervarsity), Lambda Phi Epsilon, and Alpha Tau Omega participated in teams against each other. The competition ended with first, second and third place prizes that included gift cards and gift certificates. With the help of Alpha Tau Omega, we raised $213 to donate to children's education and literacy.

At the University of Oklahoma FSSL Awards Banquet, Theta Chapter recieved 6 out of 7 Standards of Excellent Awards. These awards are based on a list of standards developed by Fraternity and Sorority Student Life (FSSL) that chapters and individual greek members are encouraged to compete for every year. Individual awards were presented to Madhuri Patel, for Outstanding Community Service, and Sasha Joseph, for Outstanding Greek Alumni. We are more than honored to be recognized for our accomplishments!

For our last sisterhood event, we celebrated each other's birthdays with a secret gift exchange. Dinner was served at Shorty Small's (thank you to my incredible work family for spoiling us!), and afterwards we celebrate the season at the Devon Ice Rink in Downtown Oklahoma City. We also took pictures on the decorated sidewalks around the Myriad Gardens---when there's pretty lights, a girl has to stop and take a picture or two. We ended our evening together in Norman for Chapel, which is a time when sisters discuss sensitive issues and serious topics with each other. The night lasted very late with hot chocolate, but regardless it was a sisterhood event I'll remember.

I'd like to give a big thank you to all of my sisters for their hard work this semester. As we prepare for spring recruitment and regional retreat among many other things, I know looking back we will be proud of the efforts we made this Fall. Our sisterhood has definitely grown this semester, thanks to all the memories we've made together and the countless times sisters have been there for each other; whether it's an impromptu movie night or a heart-to-heart conversation, there's always something bringing us together.

Lastly, I'm going miss our incredible Executive Board of this fall. Being Historian this semester, I did not feel that I accomplished as much as I could have, but nonetheless I am very grateful to have journeyed throughout these last couple months with some of the most incredible, hard working people I've come across in our chapter. I'm proud to say that together, we really went the extra mile with our dedication towards making Theta Chapter the best it can be. There is still a lot of room for improvement, but I know our Spring 2015 Board will only pick up where we left off. Thank you for all the memories, the advice, and professionalism from being a part of board for Fall 2014. I'll be back soon!

With sisterly love,

Noshin Rahman
